Steady State Simulation of an Oil Refinery Using Commercial Software Review
In my book, Refinery Process Modeling, I present generalized techniques that may be used to model any petroleum refinery. This publication presents the development of simulation models for a typical oil refinery based on these techniques. The six major refining processes in a typical oil refinery are used to develop simulation flowsheet models. Operating data corresponding to unit test runs are presented for each process and a stepwise approach to development of the simulation models is given. The six processes for which models are developed are: 1) Crude, Vacuum, and Crude Preheat Train. 2) FCC Unit and Gas Plant. 3) Naphtha Desulfurizer/Reforming Unit. 4) Delayed Coking Unit. 5) Distillate Hydrotreating Unit. 6) HF Alkylation Unit. Appropriate drawings and diagrams are used to describe the development of the simulation flowsheet models. The models are not simulator specific and may be developed with any commercial simulator capable of modeling petroleum processes.
